...is the practice of using all facets of internet advertising to generate a response from your audience. How’s Your Google Reputation?

Half of 250 employers surveyed recently admitted they Google their prospective employees before hiring. Of those, 14 percent chose not to hire a candidate based on the information revealed by their online search. These revealing facts came from a recent survey of advertising and marketing executives commissioned by The Creative Group.

It’s not just job-seekers who should pay attention to the results of this survey. It shows that the online reputation of a person or company can be a deal-breaker in the eyes of potential business partners or clients. Imagine this: Company A is about to sign a large distribution deal to have their products sold by Company B. The CEO of Company B meets the Sales Manager & CEO of Company A several times leading up to the deal and all get on well. One day, the CEO of Company B can’t find the email address of the Sales Manager of Company A so does a Google search. He finds it. Together with a grainy photo of the man being arrested for drink driving 6 years earlier. Disgusted, the CEO of Company B pulls the plug on the deal.

Ok so this example is extreme, but you get the picture. You need to monitor your online reputation to be sure that information available about you and/or your company is mostly positive. But how do you do that? Bill Hartzer suggests using Google Alerts which is a free service from Google that emails you automatically whenever there are new Google results for your chosen search terms within News, Web, Blogs, Video and Groups search. Great idea. So how’s your Google reputation?
